After going off-track the last time, I am back to the 'real' thing. Those who have read my older blog will know that this is just a thought that is being transferred from there to this new blog. For those who haven't, it can either be a thought-provoking essay or a heap of nonsense, depending on how much you like philosophy.
Religion might mean different things to different people
I have one basic principle in life. Be a good person. I always try and make sure that I do all the right things, and that I behave in a manner befitting a good human being. It is a constant effort to be good.
Now, what is good? It is being honest, straightforward, frank, kind, helpful, understanding, forgiving, hardworking and amiable. It also includes avoiding being proud, haughty, short-tempered, sadistic and hypocratic.
At the end of every day, I try to analyze my day to see how good a person I have been. And my attempt is to make sure that everyday in the morning when I get up from bed, I am a little better than the person who got up from bed the previous day.
This is my religion. This is my faith. I have often wondered... what does the Almighty want man to do? Does he want man to pray to him all the time, or would he rather prefer man to be just a good person?
I think I know my answer. After all the purpose of all religions is to make man a better person. What is the point of just going to the temple or church or mosque if you are not essentially a good person?
