Chance or choice?

This post must be read in the light of my earlier post on religion. I must also add that this is a transferred entry from my older blog to this new one.

Did we choose our religion?

I am a Hindu, I am a Muslim, I am a Christian - all of us proudly proclaim at different times in our lives. All of us are convinced of the superiority of our own religion and would never hear a word against it. But, wait a second; let us all just answer a question before moving on.

Why am I a Hindu/Muslim/Christian? The answer is simple, because we were born one. Yes, let us face it! We are a Hindu, Muslim or Christian only because we are born to parents who also believe in the same religion. Just think, what if you had been born into a family which believes in a different religion? What would have been your religion then?

Are you at the moment ready to accept another religion because you feel it is better than yours? No. And the explanation would be: 'my religion is the best, I don't have to accept another'. Fine. But another question; if you had been born in a different religion, would you then have relinquished that and accepted your current religion?

Don't jump into the answer. Just put yourself into the position of a kid who is born and brought up in a different religion, and give a truthful answer to yourself! What we have to realize is that our belonging to a particular religion is only a matter of chance. And why are we so proud about that? We could so easily have belonged to another religion.
